In recent news, Welshman Ncube, the president of the CCC, has spoken out against Acting Sengezo Tshabangu, stating that they will address Tshabangu’s issue before launching an attack on the opposition leader, Nelson Chamisa, for allegedly abandoning the party in the face of challenges. Chamisa’s unexpected departure from the CCC earlier this year was attributed to his claims that the party had been infiltrated and hijacked by ZANU PF agents. These claims were supported by the alleged manipulation of State institutions such as Parliament, the courts, and the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC), which enabled Tshabangu to field double candidates during elections and by-elections and recall the party’s representatives, defying Chamisa. These developments have led to internal strife within the party, with Ncube acknowledging that the party is grappling with factionalism, which must be addressed. He also emphasized the need to confront challenges head-on and not run away from them.

Ncube denied the allegations that he was Tshabangu’s handler and responsible for the recalls of the party’s Members of Parliament and Councillors in 2022, refuting claims that he and Tendai Biti were behind Tshabangu in a bid to push party leader Nelson Chamisa to resign. Ncube emphasized the importance of honesty in addressing the differences within the party, stating that they should not be overlooked or misrepresented for political gain. These differences, he said, are genuine political and ideological differences that need to be confronted and resolved.

In an interview with CITE, Ncube highlighted that the party’s challenges, including the Tshabangu issue and pending court cases, must be addressed. He expressed his commitment to not “gloat over” these differences and acknowledged that the party’s standing committee and national council had been suspended. The last meeting of the national council took place on the 22nd of January 2022, underscoring the need to re-establish a forum to address the differences within the party.

Ncube’s comments shed light on the internal struggles within the CCC and the need for honest and proactive leadership to address these challenges. The party’s commitment to confronting and resolving these issues is critical to its future success and ability to navigate the political landscape. As the CCC continues to grapple with internal divisions and external pressures, Ncube’s stance on addressing these challenges head-on serves as a testament to the party’s determination to overcome the obstacles it currently faces. It remains to be seen how the party will navigate these challenges and emerge stronger and more united in the future.
