Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) has announced the appointment of Professor Welshman Ncube as the Acting President following the resignation of Advocate Nelson Chamisa as President of the party. This decision was made by the CCC National Standing Committee (NSC) in response to the vacancy left by Chamisa’s resignation. The NSC has also specified that the position of Acting President will be held by the three Vice Presidents on a 90-day rotation basis until the party holds an elective congress.
Based on the 2019 Gweru Congress and the leadership structure as of January 22, 2022, Professor Welshman Ncube is the most senior of the Vice Presidents. As a result, the NSC has appointed Professor Ncube as the Acting President, effective immediately. He will fulfill this role for 90 days from the day following his appointment. The NSC has emphasized the importance of maintaining unity within the party during this transitional period.
The departure of President Nelson Chamisa and the delayed appointment of the Acting President have created uncertainties within the party, affecting its membership and the people of Zimbabwe. The CCC is now focused on restoring stability and democracy, with the Acting President tasked with leading a confidence-building process to reassure the party membership and stakeholders. This process will involve engaging with all aggrieved individuals or groups to secure consensus for an inclusive and value-driven people’s agenda.
Furthermore, the NSC has emphasized that all party deployees in various positions and public offices should continue to perform their duties for the betterment of the people. The party’s parliamentary caucus recently met and selected Hon Lynette Karenyi Kore as the Leader of the Opposition in Parliament, and other appointments will be communicated to the Speaker of Parliament accordingly.
The CCC has also urged its deployees in parliament and local government to maintain a deliberate focus on addressing important issues such as the cholera outbreak, inflation, and the government’s inability to address these pressing problems. The party is committed to improving the lives of the people and expects its representatives to prioritize these critical concerns.
In conclusion, the appointment of Professor Welshman Ncube as the Acting President and the resumption of duties by all office bearers based on the 2019 party structures marks the beginning of an uninterrupted path to restore stability and democracy within the party. The CCC is dedicated to fulfilling its democratic agenda and working towards a prosperous Zimbabwe under the leadership of the Acting President.
