Residents of Limulunga District in Western Province were left in shock after the Barotse Royal Establishment (BRE) Senior Induna Inete, Akapelwa Silumbu, was tragically shot dead by unknown assailants at his home. The incident occurred late at night, leaving the community reeling from the loss of a beloved and respected traditional leader.

The morning after the shooting, police officers arrived at the scene to begin their preliminary investigations. The body of Induna Inete was discovered in his home, surrounded by a crowd of shocked onlookers. Western Province Commissioner of Police, David Chileshe, confirmed the details of the incident, stating that the Induna was shot around 10:00 PM as he returned from his farm. He had parked his vehicle and was in the process of unloading groceries when he was fatally shot while entering his vehicle on the driver’s side.

Commissioner Chileshe assured the public that the police had launched an investigation into the murder and were committed to bringing the perpetrators to justice. He described how Induna Inete had been shot once by a shotgun from behind, causing fatal injuries. He also emphasized the importance of community cooperation and urged residents to remain calm as the investigation progressed, noting that police patrols would be intensified to maintain peace and security.

At a funeral home, the elder brother of the deceased, Tawila Silumbu, expressed his shock and grief over the loss of his brother, describing the death of the Senior Induna as horrifying and devastating. He highlighted the important role that Induna Inete played as a provider for the family and a respected leader in the community, leaving a significant void in their lives.

Mr. Silumbu appealed to the authorities to step up patrols and ensure that those responsible for the heinous crime were brought to justice. The Limulunga District Commissioner, Lutangu Lutangu, echoed the calls for calm and cooperation with the police investigation, emphasizing the need to avoid spreading harmful speculations that could hinder the pursuit of justice.

The body of Senior Induna Inete was taken to the Lewanika General Hospital mortuary, where preparations were being made for his final arrangements. With ten children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren left behind, Induna Inete’s legacy as a beloved and respected leader in the BRE was mourned by all who knew him.

In the wake of this tragic event, the community rallied together to honor the memory of Senior Induna Inete and seek justice for his untimely death. The loss of such an influential figure had a profound impact on Limulunga District, as residents grappled with the shock and sorrow of losing a leader who had inspired and uplifted his community in so many ways.
