Former Zengeza West MP and current leader of the National Democratic Working Group, Job Sikhala, has initiated a plan to engage citizens on the new direction that Zimbabwe will take. The National Democratic Working Group (NDWG) has recently announced the formation of committees to facilitate these engagements.

In a statement released by the NDWG, it was highlighted that the group aims to create a platform for the masses of Zimbabwe to voice their aspirations and collectively determine the way forward for the country. The ultimate goal is to convene a National Democratic People’s Convention where the ideas and feedback from the people will pave the way for the establishment of a mass-based democratic movement striving to take over the government.

The NDWG was founded by Job Sikhala, along with other concerned citizens and progressive groups, who believe that existing democratic alternatives have fallen short in empowering the people when it was most needed. The group emphasizes the urgent need to address the challenges faced by the citizens, including poverty, oppression, resource exploitation, electoral fraud, and the imposition of unpopular leadership.

During the inaugural meeting of the NDWG, attendees from all 10 provinces of Zimbabwe and various organizations unanimously agreed on several key resolutions. These include the creation of Provincial Democratic Working Groups comprising individuals from diverse sectors such as churches, business, war veterans, women, youths, and civil society. The primary duty of these groups will be to gather the views of the masses through group meetings at the ward and district levels.

The NDWG also acknowledges the unfinished business of the liberation war and seeks to carry it forward through a mass democratic struggle, with the people at the forefront of finding solutions to the country’s political, social, and economic issues. The group values inclusivity in all its activities, promising that the National Democratic People’s Convention will involve diverse representation and consider the submissions of over 5,000 expected delegates.

The NDWG has appointed a top governance team to lead the mass democratic struggle. Job Sikhala has been selected as the Facilitator and Chair, while Gerald Tavengwa assumes the role of Secretary. The Heads of Departments covering various areas such as finance, organizing, political affairs, information and publicity, youth affairs, and more have also been elected to steer the movement towards its objectives.

The NDWG aims to serve as a platform for implementing the mass democratic struggle of the people of Zimbabwe, with a focus on mobilizing and empowering citizens to assert their rights and drive positive change in the country. As the group continues its efforts to engage and empower the masses, it remains committed to building a strong foundation for a democratic and prosperous Zimbabwe.
