President Must Call For Polad to Address Economic Challenges
Africa First Movement (AFM) Welcome Shumba has appealed to President Emmerson Mnangagwa to call for an urgent Political Actors Dialogue (Polad) meeting in order to address the current economic challenges. Shumba emphasized the importance of all political party leaders playing a crucial role in tackling the economic challenges faced by the country.
In a statement issued recently, Shumba urged President Mnangagwa to reconvene Polad to seek advice on addressing issues such as runaway inflation, price instability, and exchange rate volatility. He acknowledged the recent appointment of a new reserve bank governor in line with the RBZ Act but emphasized that the responsibility for economic stability should not solely rest on the governor’s shoulders. Shumba highlighted the need for a collective effort from both political and economic stakeholders to achieve economic stability and progress towards Vision 2030.
Furthermore, Shumba expressed Polad’s readiness to support President Mnangagwa in addressing the economic challenges. He mentioned Polad’s track record of effectively engaging with the government between 2019 and 2022, resulting in relative economic stability during that period. Shumba emphasized the importance of broader stakeholder engagement to prevent inflation from spiraling out of control, citing Polad’s past success despite criticisms from certain quarters.
President Mnangagwa himself has acknowledged the value of the Polad platform, describing it as extremely useful for fostering dialogue and exchange of views among different political parties. He emphasized the inclusive nature of Polad, allowing parties that did not succeed in the 2018 elections to participate in constructive discussions on various government frameworks. Mnangagwa expressed his intention to continue utilizing the Polad platform as a beneficial tool for national unity and collaboration.
In light of the ongoing economic challenges facing Zimbabwe, Shumba’s call for the reactivation of Polad and increased stakeholder engagement is timely and crucial. Collaboration and dialogue among political and economic actors are essential for formulating effective strategies to stabilize the economy, curb inflation, and promote sustainable growth.
As Zimbabwe navigates its economic landscape, the involvement of all relevant stakeholders, including Polad members, in addressing pressing issues is vital. By harnessing the collective expertise and perspectives of diverse political parties and economic players, the country can strive towards achieving its developmental goals and ensuring a more stable and prosperous future for all its citizens.
Overall, the reactivation of Polad and its renewed engagement with the government and other stakeholders offer a promising avenue for addressing Zimbabwe’s economic challenges and fostering inclusive development. President Mnangagwa’s consideration of Shumba’s plea to revive Polad demonstrates a commitment to inclusive governance and collaborative decision-making in tackling the country’s current economic uncertainties.
