Former Liberation Movements Unstoppable, Boasts Obert Mpofu

ZANU PF Secretary General Obert Mpofu emphasized the need for the Former Liberation Movements of Southern Africa to stand united and continue strengthening their bond in defense of liberation gains. Speaking at the 11th Meeting of Secretaries General and Wings of the former Liberation Movement in Victoria Falls, Mpofu highlighted the importance of working together to realize the dreams of Pan Africanism.

Mpofu urged the movements to share notes and experiences on how to counter the efforts of their detractors. He acknowledged that the movements are facing challenges from external forces that seek to sow seeds of division among them. However, Mpofu expressed confidence that their unity is stronger than any attempts to divide them.

The Secretary General called for a concerted effort to realize the vision of Pan Africanism, drawing inspiration from leaders like Kwame Nkrumah and Mwalimu Julius Nyerere. He emphasized that the movements must remain united and vigilant in the face of external pressures.

Mpofu pointed out that there are upcoming elections in South Africa, Tanzania, Mozambique, and Namibia, and cautioned against interference from detractors. He cited the example of the harmonized elections in Zimbabwe in August 2023, where ZANU PF emerged victorious despite external pressure and criticism.

Referring to the Mumba Report, which questioned the validity of the elections in Zimbabwe, Mpofu emphasized the need to remain united and not be swayed by external influences. He expressed confidence that other liberation movements like the ANC, Chama Cha Mapinduzi, FRELIMO, and SWAPO will emerge victorious in their respective elections, as winning is deeply ingrained in their DNA.

In conclusion, Mpofu reaffirmed the commitment of the Former Liberation Movements to continue working together to uphold their shared values and aspirations. He urged them to learn from past experiences and remain united in the face of challenges.

As the meeting concluded, Mpofu’s words resonated with the participants, inspiring them to stay the course and remain unwavering in their commitment to the ideals of liberation and Pan Africanism. The gathering served as a reminder of the enduring bond that unites the Former Liberation Movements of Southern Africa, and the collective strength they possess in the face of adversity.
