Human Rights Defenders Hail Abolition Of Death Penalty

Zimbabwe has officially abolished the death penalty with the passing of the Death Penalty Abolition Act.
According to a government gazette released on Tuesday, the new law stipulates that no court shall impose the death sentence for any crime. Instead, courts are required to impose alternative sentences that are suitable to the circumstances of each case.
