Zambians Must Demand Accountability from Hon. Mundubile

In a recent development, Leader of Opposition Hon Brian Mundubile has brought to light the alleged attempts by Parliament to introduce Proxy voting in the house. Proxy voting refers to a ballot cast by one person on behalf of another. Hon Mundubile has criticized this move, stating that it is a disgraceful attempt to bypass the rightful position of Parliament. He further asserted that the motive behind introducing Proxy voting is to pave the way for constitutional amendments, particularly regarding G@y rights.

The Mporokoso lawmaker also highlighted that the concept of proxy voting is not suitable for the current electoral system in Zambia, where leaders are closely connected to their constituents. He suggested that if Parliament wishes to facilitate voting for absent MPs, it should consider introducing virtual voting as a more viable and inclusive option.

In expressing his concern, Hon Mundubile emphasized the importance of MPs consulting their constituents and voting based on their feedback. He pointed out that the introduction of proxy voting would undermine the electoral system and create room for undue influence and manipulation. He categorically stated that proxy voting may be suitable for a Party-List electoral system, where candidates do not have direct connections with the voters, but not for Zambia’s current electoral system.

Furthermore, Hon Mundubile expressed disappointment in the current Parliament’s failure to effectively serve the interests of the Zambian people. He called on citizens to demand accountability and ensure that Parliament fulfills its mandate of addressing the country’s economic, agricultural, and health challenges. He recognized that the lack of effective debate and decision-making in Parliament has contributed to the country’s current challenges, and he apologized to the citizens for this failure.

It is essential for Zambian citizens to remain vigilant and uphold the integrity of their electoral system and parliamentary processes. By holding their leaders accountable and advocating for transparent and effective governance, they can ensure that the Parliament represents their best interests. Hon Mundubile’s efforts to expose and challenge the proposed proxy voting system demonstrate the significance of citizen participation in safeguarding democratic principles and ensuring fair and equitable representation. As the country moves forward, it is crucial for all stakeholders to work together to uphold the democratic process and promote governance that truly serves the people.
