A heartbroken man in Bulawayo resorted to extreme measures after being dumped by his girlfriend, resulting in a dangerous act of arson. The incident unfolded over the weekend, shocking both the residents and the landlord of the building where the targeted woman lived.

According to reports from State Media, the man, identified only as Albert, set fire to his ex-lover’s lodgings in a fit of rage. The landlord, Mr. Clifford Nyathi, described how the chaos unfolded in the early hours of the morning, with screams alerting him to the fire consuming the property.

Mr. Nyathi recounted the events, stating that the fire was deliberately started outside the house by Albert using a flammable liquid, suspected to be petrol. The screaming tenants, a mother and her daughter, raised the alarm, leading to neighbors rushing to the scene to try and extinguish the flames. Albert’s ex-girlfriend, Ms. Sikhangezile Moyo, identified him through a window as the perpetrator of the arson attack.

The motive behind Albert’s destructive actions seemed to stem from his inability to accept the end of his relationship with Ms. Moyo. He resorted to using plastic materials and clothing to fuel the fire and force the occupants of the house to respond to his violent outburst.

This was not the first violent encounter between Albert and Ms. Moyo, as Mr. Nyathi revealed that the perpetrator had a history of aggressive behavior. Earlier in the month, Albert had vandalized the landlord’s property, including breaking windows and doors, and had even attempted to attack his tenant with a machete.

The landlord also disclosed that Albert had a criminal record, having served time in prison for cattle rustling in the rural areas. Despite reporting the incident to the police, Albert managed to evade capture and his current whereabouts remain unknown.

The community response to the arson attack was swift, with neighbors stepping in to extinguish the flames and ensure the safety of the residents. Mr. Nyathi expressed concern over the escalating violence displayed by Albert and emphasized the need for law enforcement to address the situation promptly.

As the investigation into the arson continues, the residents are left traumatized by the terrifying ordeal and the uncertainty surrounding Albert’s next potential move. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of unchecked anger and the importance of seeking help in managing emotions during turbulent times.
