A severe hailstorm wreaked havoc at Dadaya High School in Zvishavane, destroying two classroom blocks, two hostels, and an administration block on a fateful Thursday. The destructive hailstorm, coupled with strong winds, mercilessly ripped off the roofs of the school buildings, leaving more than 100 students stranded and in shock.

The Headmaster of Dadaya High School, Mr. Gevas Churume, confirmed the extent of the damage caused by the devastating hailstorm. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries among the students, but the aftermath of the storm left a trail of destruction in its wake. Mr. Churume expressed his concern over the situation, stating, “Huge trees were uprooted in the vicinity of the school, and the storm blew away classroom roofs and housing units that were meant to shelter the students.”

Upon receiving the distressing news, Zvishavane District Development Coordinator, Mr. Darlington Chokera, mobilized the Civil Protection Unit (CPU) team to assess the damage caused by the catastrophic hailstorm at Dadaya High School. Mr. Chokera emphasized the importance of providing assistance to the school in their time of need, stating, “Our CPU team is on the ground to see how best we can assist the school. The storm wreaked havoc by destroying classrooms and hostels, leaving a significant amount of damage in its wake.”

The recent heavy rains, which have been of a destructive nature, have been impacting various parts of the country and causing damage to properties.
