Thales appoints Yan Levy as Director General of Thales in Morocco

In a statement, Thales announced the appointment of Yan Levy as the Director General of Thales in Morocco. In this role, he will lead the development of the Group’s activities in the country, particularly in the field of cybersecurity, where Morocco is an excellence hub.

Yan Levy has 33 years of experience within the Thales group. Before this appointment, he was responsible for commercial development in the African continent. He also led the commercial development of public security and digital identity markets. Yan Levy started his career in air defense and tactical radio communication before moving towards major security projects. He holds a Master’s degree in Physics-Chemistry and an MBA in Computer Science. He has been an ambassador for Thales Solidarity since 2015.

“It is an honor to lead Thales’ activities in Morocco, supporting the Group’s localization strategy and aligning with the Kingdom’s vision. Thales will continue to invest in research and support local talents, while forging close ties with Moroccan universities to prepare them for international careers. We aim to further establish Thales as a key contributor in the Moroccan ecosystem and expand our initiatives to other African countries from Morocco,” said Yan Levy on this occasion.

Thales, a leading provider of defense and security solutions, aerospace, and digital identity and security, has been present in Morocco for over 40 years and currently employs more than 135 people in the Kingdom. The group has its headquarters in Rabat.

In 2022, Thales opened a cybersecurity operational center in Morocco, the sixth within its international network. This center enables Moroccan and African administrations and businesses to have effective supervision in cybersecurity matters.

During the same year, Thales signed a convention with the Ministry of Digital Transition and Administrative Reform to recruit 150 people by 2027, to develop the group’s cybersecurity activities in the Kingdom. Since 2016, the Group also has a specialized industrial excellence center in metal additive manufacturing (3D metal printing) in Casablanca.

In the field of digital identity, Thales provided Morocco with the first biometric national identity card based on contactless smart card technology. As a leading provider of avionics and onboard electronics for Boeing and Airbus, the group is a key partner for the national carrier Royal Air Maroc. Royal Air Maroc’s Boeing 737 and 787 fleets are equipped with Thales onboard entertainment systems.
