The highly anticipated independent film Finding Tony, directed by Raven Magwood Goodson and executive produced by NBA star Anthony Davis, is set to debut on May 9, 2024, during a private VIP screening in Los Angeles. The film will be released exclusively on May 10th on watch.findingtonyfilm.com. In June, Finding Tony will be released via Amazon, Apple TV, and other TVOD platforms.
Finding Tony follows the story of a widowed NBA star who loses everything after his wife is murdered. He reluctantly begins coaching a junior college women’s basketball team, where he meets an orphaned basketball prodigy who will change his life forever. The film addresses various relatable topics such as depression, mental health, grief, alcoholism, troubled youth issues, and overcoming obstacles. The star-studded cast includes Stephen Bishop, Raquel Justice, David Banner, Columbus Short, and other emerging talents. Finding Tony is a family-friendly movie filled with messages of hope and triumph.
The first screening for Finding Tony took place during the 2024 NBA All-Star Weekend in Indianapolis on February 17th. The exclusive event was attended by the movie’s executive producers and stars, along with NBA players, athletes, and members of organizations like Prevent Child Abuse America and 100 Black Men. The screening was also open to students from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) across the country.
Writer and director Raven Magwood Goodson plans to host a special HBCU screening in late April in Atlanta, allowing students to preview the film, interact with the cast and crew, and engage in conversations about mental health. Goodson expressed excitement about inspiring audiences with the film’s subtle messages.
Prior to the digital release in May, a red-carpet VIP screening premiere will take place in LA, featuring the cast, crew, VIP guests, and public figures. Following the screening, there will be a Q&A session for attendees to interact with the director and cast, discussing the film’s intricacies, vision, and message.
