Why URA must refund excess taxes

The Uganda Revenue Authority’s (URA) practice of delaying tax refunds over never-ending investigations has been declared illegal by the Tax Appeals Tribunal (TAT).

The Tribunal has ordered the tax body to refund Shs2.3 billion to Grofin Fund Africa Uganda Limited. Grofin, a company that provides loan financing and business support to local enterprises, had overpaid its taxes.
