On March 21, the Advocate General of the European Union, Tamara Capeta, gave her opinion on the legal validity of the fishing and agricultural agreements between Morocco and the EU. These two agreements were invalidated by the European Union’s General Court in September 2021 following a complaint from the Polisario Front. Regarding the agricultural agreement, the Advocate General believes that the annulment was unfounded. She reminds that the Polisario is not the legitimate representative of the Sahrawi people and therefore cannot speak on their behalf. However, she rejects the fishing agreement which, according to her interpretation, does not meet certain conditions, including the separate treatment of this territory. If the Court aligns with these conclusions, Morocco will have to renegotiate these two texts. Analysis.
