The Nigeria Para Volleyball Federation (NPVF) has announced that the country’s para volleyball men and women teams are gearing up for the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games’ qualifiers, set to kick off on January 29, 2024, at the Molade Okoya Thomas Indoor Sports Hall of the Teslim Balogun Stadium. The federation, under the leadership of Kayode Ladele, is hosting the event, which will see teams from Egypt, Morocco, Kenya, Zimbabwe, Rwanda, Algeria, and Libya competing for a chance to participate in the Paralympic Games in Paris.

Ladele explained that upon assuming leadership of the board, they recognized the need to establish a sustainable structure for the para volleyball teams. As a result, they brought in Egyptian coach Elaiuty Mosaad to develop a comprehensive technical framework for the players and coaches. Ladele emphasized that getting one of the best coaches in the world with a proven track record was crucial for the federation’s success.

Looking ahead to the qualifiers, Ladele highlighted the preparations that have been made for the Nigerian teams. A foreign coach, renowned for his expertise in sitting volleyball, spent a month working with the players and selected coaches to prepare them for the upcoming event. Mosaad, the chosen coach, previously led Egypt to a bronze medal finish at the 2016 Rio Paralympics.

The men’s pre-Olympics qualifiers will feature Nigeria, Egypt, Morocco, and Kenya in Group A, while the women’s team will be pitted against competition from Kenya, Rwanda, and Zimbabwe. Nigeria’s men’s team will begin their campaign with a match against Kenya, while the women’s team will face off against Zimbabwe.

With the coaching expertise and rigorous preparations in place, the Nigerian para volleyball teams are aiming to secure their spots at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games and make a strong impression on the international stage. The NPVF is confident in the teams’ abilities and is committed to supporting their quest for success at the qualifiers and beyond.
