The Ikoyi Club 1938 Veteran’s Invitational Kitty is not just a golf tournament – it is a celebration of camaraderie, skill, and the enduring values of the sport. This year, the organisers are taking it a step further by championing inclusivity and charity, making sure that golf is accessible to all and giving back to the community.

Scheduled to take place on April 4, the Veteran’s Invitational is set to showcase the skills and sportsmanship of golf enthusiasts from diverse backgrounds. Tade Adekunle, the Golf Section’s Captain, emphasized the club’s commitment to fostering an inclusive environment for all golf players and enthusiasts. He stated, “At Ikoyi Club Golf Section, we believe that golf should be accessible to all, regardless of age. Our Veterans’ Invitational is a testament to our dedication to inclusivity, welcoming seasoned golfers and members to come together in the spirit of friendly competition, while leading a healthier lifestyle.”

In addition to the Veteran’s Invitational, the club has a diverse calendar of events planned for the year. This includes a year-round junior golf programme for children aged between 6 and 16 years, as well as the Children’s Kitty Day. There are also tournaments and scholarship programs planned for the caddies. These activities aim to enhance the golfing experience for members and strengthen the sense of community within the club.

Mrs. Abah Oputa, the Chairperson of the Committee, echoed Adekunle’s sentiments and emphasized the club’s dual focus on charity and sports development. She stated, “As ambassadors of the sport, in addition to encouraging our veterans to lead a healthy lifestyle through the Veterans Invitational, we also recognize our responsibility to give back to society and nurture the next generation of golfing talent.”
This year, Ikoyi Club Golf Section is proud to launch several charitable initiatives aimed at supporting worthy causes within the community. Additionally, efforts are being made to provide mentorship and training opportunities for young golfers, ensuring that the sport continues to thrive for years to come.
