John Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu, was a veteran actor in Nollywood who tragically passed away from cardiac arrest at Evercare Hospital in Lekki after being admitted to the intensive care unit. His death occurred on March 2, 2024, leaving fans and colleagues in mourning for the loss of a talented actor.

Born on October 17, 1961, John Ikechukwu Okafor was 62 years old at the time of his passing. He hailed from Umunekwu in Nigeria’s former Eastern Region, now in Nkanu West L.G.A., Enugu State. Before venturing into acting, Okafor pursued a career in martial arts and was a Shotokan Karate artist for 16 years, eventually earning a black belt. He even taught Karate in several federal colleges in Nigeria before transitioning into acting.

Initially starting as a producer, Okafor’s comedic talent was eventually discovered by producers who cast him in his first acting role in 1997. From then on, he starred in numerous comedy movies and rose to fame in 2004 with his role in “Mr Ibu” and “Mr Ibu in London.” Over his career, he appeared in over 200 Nollywood films and even delved into music briefly, releasing songs in 2020.
