US calls Algeria’s proposed UN resolution on Israel’s Rafah offensive

The United States on Wednesday My 29 opposed a U.N. Security Council resolution calling for an immediate cease-fire in Gaza and an end to Israel’s military actions in Rafah, saying it “is not going to be helpful.”

Algeria, representing Arab countries on the council, shared the draft resolution with the 15 council members on Tuesday evening after emergency talks about the intensifying Israeli operation in Rafah.

U.S. deputy ambassador Robert Wood told reporters ahead of Wednesday’s monthly Mideast meeting that “another resolution is not necessarily going to change anything on the ground.”
