The United Nations institution leads a peace promotion caravan in schools in the city of Yaoundé.

The United Nations Organization for Education, Science and Culture is making an incursion into school campuses. The Cameroon office of this institution is visiting schools, high schools, and colleges as part of an awareness campaign. The initiative, called the “peace, tolerance, and intercommunity dialogue incubator caravan,” fights against violence in schools.

The caravan is launched in a school environment where acts of violence are multiplying. These acts are mostly committed by students against other students or teachers, and sometimes vice versa. In recent years, acts such as punches or stabbings, verbal violence, and vandalism have reached alarming levels in the school environment. The UNESCO Office in Cameroon aims to sow the seeds of peace in the minds of young people through this operation. The institution intends to rely on young people to participate in the transformation of society.

To achieve this, UNESCO organizes activities such as master classes in public and private primary and secondary schools. The goal is to instill in students the values that will help strengthen unity. The mentors work to give these young people tools they can use to curb the progression of violence.
