The Acropolis Golf Course is set to open on April 6, and the Professional Golfers’ Association of Nigeria (PGA) believes that it will play a significant role in grooming more professional golfers in the country. According to Uchenna Ezebuiro, the Operations Director of PGA Nigeria, the golf course will not only introduce the game to a new location but also provide an opportunity for young aspiring golfers to explore the money-making potential of the sport.
Ezebuiro emphasized that Nigeria is one of the few African countries where young individuals can aspire to pursue golf as a career and potentially earn a decent income that surpasses the average populace. He noted that some of the top players in the Nigerian PGA rankings are already comfortable with their earnings, but becoming a professional golfer requires dedication and hard work.
The PGA of Nigeria is optimistic about the impact of the Acropolis Golf Course in exposing more youngsters to the professional side of the game. Ezebuiro highlighted that Nigerians are naturally athletic, passionate, and goal-oriented, which makes them ideal candidates for excelling in golf. The partnership between Acropolis Golf and Resort and the PGA of Nigeria is designed to support development initiatives from the outset, ensuring that the facility contributes to the growth of the sport in the country.
Pamela Osanakpo, the Communications Manager at Acropolis Golf and Resort, emphasized the strategic alliance between their facility and PGA Nigeria, aiming to benefit not only the game of golf but also the community and the country as a whole. The opening event at the 18-hole course will feature some of Nigeria’s top professional players, including Francis Epe, Oche Odoh, Mike Ubi, Gift Willy, and Olapade Sunday from Ikoyi Club 1938.
The presence of these seasoned professionals at the launch event will showcase the skill and talent that exists within the Nigerian golfing community. It is expected that their participation will inspire and motivate young golf enthusiasts to pursue their dreams of becoming professional golfers.
The Acropolis Golf Course represents a significant milestone in the development of golf in Nigeria and provides a platform for aspiring golfers to hone their skills and compete at a professional level. With the support of PGA Nigeria and the partnership with Acropolis Golf and Resort, the future of Nigerian golf looks promising, with the potential to produce more talented golfers who can compete on the international stage.
