A massive expansion in clinical trial capacity and long-term research infrastructure has propelled Uganda into Africa’s top recipients of major medical research grants from leading partners like the US National Institutes of Health (NIH).
Dr Steven Reynolds, the Scientific Director of the NIH’s National Institutes of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) International Center for Excellence in Research, told the Monitor that Uganda ranks among the top three recipients of NIH funds, competing with Kenya.
