Italian ambassador to Uganda Mauro Massoni recently encouraged farmers in Uganda to add value to their agricultural products in order to compete favorably in European markets. He highlighted Uganda’s natural resources, including fertile soils and favorable weather, which are ideal for agriculture. Mauro shared his experience of growing salad seeds in his backyard in Kampala, noting how quickly they grew and produced an abundance of food.
During a stakeholder meeting held in Kampala on March 21, Mauro discussed the upcoming agricultural show in Bologna, Italy, scheduled for November. He emphasized the importance of modernized agriculture in Uganda, praising the country’s potential for agricultural success. Mauro also urged the Ugandan government to promote the beauty of the country to attract more attention from European markets.
In preparation for the Bologna agricultural exhibition, the Italian Trade Agency (ITA) organized an event targeting Ugandan farmers, wholesalers, and retailers interested in mechanized agriculture. The event aimed to showcase opportunities for Ugandan participants at the forthcoming exhibition. Fabio Ricci, an official from the Bologna agricultural show (EIMA International), provided an overview of the event scheduled for November 6-10.
EIMA International is recognized as one of the world’s largest and most prestigious exhibitions in the field of agricultural mechanics. It serves as a key platform for economic operators, agricultural entrepreneurs, technicians, and researchers in the agriculture sector. The exhibition spans indoor and outdoor spaces at the Bologna fairgrounds, attracting exhibitors and visitors from around the world.
Statistics from the 2022 exhibition highlighted the global participation, with over 80 foreign delegations, 1,531 exhibitors from 40 countries, and 327,137 visitors from 150 countries. The event offers valuable networking opportunities and showcases the latest innovations and technologies in agricultural machinery.
Mauro’s call to Ugandan farmers to add value to their products aligns with the goal of enhancing competitiveness in international markets. By focusing on modernizing agriculture and promoting Uganda’s unique resources, farmers can attract more attention and demand for their products in global markets. The upcoming agricultural show in Bologna presents a significant opportunity for Ugandan farmers to showcase their talents and products on a global stage, fostering growth and collaboration in the agricultural sector.
