Uganda’s ambition to achieve its tenfold growth economy to $500 billion could be derailed unless the government urgently fixes inefficiencies, corruption and delays in public procurement, the Permanent Secretary and Secretary to the Treasury, Mr Ramathan Ggoobi, warned.
Speaking at the 2026 Public Procurement Cadre Forum at Commonwealth Resort Munyonyo on Thursday, Mr Ggoobi described procurement as the engine of development execution, saying the country’s economic transformation would depend less on policy papers and more on how efficiently the government implements projects.
