Cracks within the National Unity Platform (NUP), Uganda’s largest opposition political party, have widened as Mathias Mpuuga, the deputy president, defended himself against calls for his resignation over alleged misuse of taxpayers’ funds. Mpuuga criticized the party leadership for its inability to mobilize supporters effectively for the upcoming 2026 general elections.
