The directorate of crime intelligence (DCI) has made a significant arrest in the case of the brutal murder of two children in Kiboga for ritual sacrifice. The suspect, a witch doctor named Sulaiman Ssentongo, was apprehended by the authorities after fleeing to Kireka, Kira Municipality, in Wakiso district following the heinous crime.

The tragic incident unfolded in Kasega parish, Kapeke sub-county, stirring shock and disbelief among the local residents. The victims, Sylvia Nantongo, aged five, and Esther Nakasumba, aged two, went missing under mysterious circumstances, prompting a frantic search by the community. Tragically, the siblings were found decapitated the following day, sending shockwaves through the entire community.

The police in Kiboga launched a thorough investigation, employing sniffer dogs that led them to Ssentongo’s shrine. It was later discovered that the 32-year-old witch doctor had fled the area with the assistance of his accomplice, Maureen Namuleme, aged 41. The authorities swiftly alerted the DCI and the police cyber unit, who tracked the suspects’ movements using a mobile phone signal until they were located hiding in Kireka township.

During interrogation, Ssentongo admitted that Namuleme had provided him with transportation money to escape after committing the crime, a claim he later retracted. The pair was promptly transported back to Kiboga to face justice for their alleged involvement in the gruesome murders. SP Racheal Kawala, the Wamala regional police spokesperson, confirmed the arrest of Ssentongo and Namuleme.

“Our crime intelligence operatives have apprehended two suspects in connection with the double murders that occurred in Kasega parish, Kapeke sub-county, Kiboga district. The suspects have been identified as Sulaiman Ssentongo, 32 years old, and Namuleme Maureen, 41 years old,” stated Kawala. Ssentongo hails from Kirinda village, Kasega parish, Kapeke sub-county, in Kiboga district, while Namuleme resides in Kisingiri cell, Namiremebe Bakuli ward, Rubaga division, Kampala.

Kawala disclosed that Ssentongo was traced using his mobile phone and alleged that Namuleme had aided him with financial assistance to flee the crime scene. The suspects are currently in custody at Kiboga CPS for further questioning, bringing the total number of arrests in the case to three. Investigations indicate that the children were reported missing on April 3, 2024, and their dismembered bodies were discovered the following day in Kirinda village.

The motive behind the brutal murders remains unclear, and the authorities are yet to determine whether the children were abducted by the witch doctor alone or with the assistance of a close relative, given that they vanished during the night hours. The community is reeling from the senseless violence that claimed the lives of two innocent children, and justice must be served for their untimely demise.
