The police in Rukungiri District, on January 31, made a significant breakthrough by recovering a gun that had been stolen from a private security guard attached to Millennium Security Ltd. The theft, perpetrated by unknown individuals, had raised concerns and threatened public safety.

The Police spokesman for Kigezi Region, Mr Elly Maate, revealed that the missing gun was found hidden in a bush near a crop garden next to Kakabanda-Framers road behind Rukungiri District administration block in Butagatsi cell, Kinyasano, Ward Western Division, Rukungiri Municipality. This recovery was made possible by a tipoff from a concerned citizen, highlighting the importance of community involvement in law enforcement efforts.

Mr Maate further explained that the police officers immediately responded to the tipoff, leading to the recovery of the missing gun, which was identified as the same firearm stolen from a security guard on January 19 in Rukungiri District. The stolen gun, with serial number UG PSO -07318- 03821, was confirmed to be the weapon taken from Erigio Mugyenyi, a security guard attached to Millennium Security Company Ltd. Mugyenyi had been attacked by unknown assailants at his workplace located at Bwangu Investment Mukwano depot in Rukungiri Municipality, sustaining injuries in the process. The theft occurred at around 1:00 am and involved the loss of a gun with one round of ammunition.

The police in Rukungiri District had been diligently investigating the case of the stolen gun, which had been reported at the Rukungiri police station under SD REF 03/19/01/2024. The recovery of the stolen firearm was a significant development in the ongoing investigation, but Mr Maate emphasized that the police were still actively pursuing leads to apprehend the perpetrators and uncover the motive behind the theft. He urged the public to assist the police in identifying the individuals responsible for the robbery, underscoring the importance of community cooperation in combating crime.

This incident serves as a reminder of the critical role that citizens play in assisting law enforcement in the detection and prevention of criminal activities. The collaboration between the police and the community, as evidenced by the tipoff that led to the recovery of the stolen gun, is instrumental in maintaining public safety and upholding the rule of law.

In conclusion, the successful recovery of the stolen firearm in Rukungiri District is a testament to the effectiveness of community engagement in law enforcement efforts. The continued cooperation between the police and the public is vital in addressing and preventing criminal incidents, and it is crucial for citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities. By working together, law enforcement and the community can create a safer environment for all residents.
