Five years ago, Mr Michael Otonga Ochan left his job as director of finance and corporate services at the Petroleum Authority of Uganda (PAU), the oil sector regulator.
One of the first six persons employed by PAU in 2016, Mr Otonga, had served five years and his contract was up for renewal in 2021, when he encountered the headwinds of corporate intrigue that put his job on the line. It took the board’s intervention for common sense to prevail.
