A tragic incident occurred in Arua city, northern Uganda, as a newlywed couple lost their lives in a fuel inferno. Lillian Anguezaru Fungaro, 20, and her husband Emmanuel Adima, 30, had only been married for two weeks before the devastating incident. The couple was reportedly heard screaming for help late at night, and despite efforts to save them, the outcome was heartbreaking.
Francis Abiti, a neighbor of the deceased couple, revealed that Adima was involved in the illegal trade of smuggled fuel from DR Congo. Tragically, Anguezaru was killed instantly in the fire, while Adima succumbed to his severe burns the following day at the regional referral hospital. The police spokesperson for the West Nile region, Josephine Angucia, confirmed that the cause of the fire was linked to the ignition of a matchbox in a house saturated with petrol fumes. Furthermore, it was noted that cases of petrol inferno are not uncommon in the area, often attributed to the rampant smuggling of fuel from neighboring countries.
The tragic incident involving the couple is not an isolated one, as similar incidents have occurred in the region. In the past, others have lost their lives in fuel-related fires, highlighting the dangers of engaging in illegal fuel trade and the need for increased safety measures. Ultimately, this heartbreaking incident serves as a reminder of the risks and consequences associated with the illegal fuel trade and the importance of addressing the underlying issues contributing to such tragedies.
