President Yoweri Museveni expressed his admiration for the late Dokolo Woman MP, Cecilia Ogwal, at a vigil held in her honor at parliament. The president referred to her as a great leader and highlighted her steadfast commitment to serving the national interest, even when elected to the Pan African Parliament.

Museveni fondly called her Cissy Ogwal and praised her for her dedication to the country, recognizing her as a defender of Uganda’s interests on the international stage. He also recounted her fearless rejection of politics fueled by hatred and commended her for challenging it. The president highlighted her efforts in pacifying the northern region of Uganda and also spoke highly of her integrity, citing her tenure as Parliamentary Commissioner as an example of her incorruptibility.

Speaker of parliament, Anita Among, expressed gratitude to the president for granting Ogwal an official burial and mentioned that he had approved a request by members of parliament for a special project in her honor. She emphasized how Ogwal prioritized the country’s interests over political affiliations, demonstrating a patriotic spirit in her approach to national issues.

In addition, Museveni criticized opposition activists for attempting to disrupt international conferences in Uganda and expressed his disapproval of their actions. The vigil was attended by other notable figures, including Chief Justice Alfonse Owiny-Dollo, Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja, Government Chief Whip Hamson Obua, and various members of parliament.

Overall, the vigil served as a tribute to Cecilia Ogwal’s legacy as a leader who transcended party politics and prioritized the well-being of the nation. Her integrity, commitment to peace, and patriotism were acknowledged and celebrated by President Museveni and other dignitaries in attendance.
