Uganda martyrs: Mukajanga descendants seek to turn chief executioner’s grave into tourism site

Tucked away in Buyonga Village, about two hours from Kampala along the highway to western Uganda’s oil-rich city of Hoima, lies the final resting place of one of the most controversial figures in Uganda’s religious history.

The burial grounds of Paul Kibuuka, popularly known as Mukajanga, the chief executioner of Buganda Kingdom under Kabaka Mwanga II, are increasingly attracting attention from descendants and heritage advocates who hope to transform the site into a centre for pilgrimage, education and religious tourism.
