This announcement was made during the weekly police press briefing by Mr. Michael Kananura, the spokesperson of the Directorate of Traffic and Road Safety.
Mr. Kananura emphasized the need for the public to plan their journeys early to avoid delays and to adhere to traffic guidelines that will be issued on the roads. The graduation, which will last for a week, is expected to have 12,913 students participating, with 6,816 being females and 6,097 males. Among the students, 11,016 are pursuing undergraduate degrees, 156 are postgraduate students, and 132 are PhD students.
On Monday, 1,476 students from different schools and colleges at Makerere University graduated. This included 1,011 undergraduate students, 404 graduate students, 24 undergraduate diploma students, and 36 PhD students from the College of Natural Sciences, Health Sciences, and the School of Law.
Overall, the graduation exercise is likely to cause traffic congestion on various roads, and the police are urging the public to plan ahead and follow traffic guidelines to ensure a smooth flow of traffic during this period. This is important for the safety and convenience of both the graduating students and the general public.
