The late Cecilia Ogwal, a former Miss Uganda 1969 contestant and prominent member of the Uganda People’s Congress (UPC), has passed away. She was commonly known as Imat Cecilia in Lango and was a well-respected figure in Ugandan politics. Cecilia Ogwal reportedly succumbed to cancer in India.
The 77-year-old Dokolo Woman MP had a long and illustrious career, serving as a member of parliament for Lira Municipality and also being a member of the Constituent Assembly. She also served in the Pan-African Parliament. The speaker of parliament, Anita Annet Among, confirmed her passing and expressed her condolences, referring to Cecilia Ogwal as a “Mother, Mentor, and role model.” Among extended sympathies to Cecilia’s husband, family, friends, the people of Lango, and her colleagues, wishing for her soul to find eternal rest.
