Kasaana Junior Primary School in Masaka City has defied the odds and emerged as one of the top-performing schools in the 2023 Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE). Despite the lingering memories of a devastating school fire, which claimed the lives of seven pre-primary children, the school achieved a remarkable 100 percent Division One record.
The news of the school’s exceptional performance brought jubilation to the school premises as the head teacher, Mr. Joseph Ssenkasi, announced that all 100 candidates who sat for their final exams passed with a first-grade.
“Eight of the candidates scored Aggregate 4, and 30 passed with Aggregate 5. We are overwhelmed with joy. God was on our side despite the disastrous fire. This is one of our happiest moments in the history of the school,” Mr. Ssenkasi expressed his gratitude.
Following the tragic fire incident in October 2023, which led to the temporary closure of the school to allow the pupils to recover from the trauma, the school has managed to overcome various setbacks. Mr. William Amos Jjuuko, the school director, credited the rehabilitation efforts and the community support for the students’ remarkable recovery and success.
“We thank the religious leaders and employed counselors who played a crucial role in counseling our pupils. Since the incident, we have addressed all the loopholes by completing the perimeter fence, installation of security cameras, and boosting security personnel,” Mr. Jjuuko added.
One of the top performers, Edward Alpha Kambere, attributed their success to the support of their teachers and parents, especially after the challenging fire incident.
“We were preparing for the final exams when the fire struck the school. It was a bad experience but our teachers encouraged us to stand strong. Our parents gave us great encouragement,” Kambere shared his experience.
The school’s outstanding performance in the face of adversity is a testament to the resilience and determination of the students, teachers, and the entire school community. Despite the tragic incident, Kasaana Junior Primary School has risen above the challenges to achieve academic excellence.
