The family of the late Cecilia Barbara Atim Ogwal has put forward her daughter, Ms. Rosemary Alwoc Ogwal, as a candidate for the Dokolo Woman Member of Parliament. This seat was previously held by her late mother, whose passing left it vacant on January 18. Cecilia Ogwal, a member of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party, passed away due to a cancer-related illness in a hospital in India. She was laid to rest at her home in Dog-Gudu Cell, Alito Town Council in Kole District on January 27.

Her daughter, Ms. Rosemary Alwoc Ogwal, has expressed interest in filling the vacancy and serving the remaining term, which extends until 2026. Despite not being very familiar with Dokolo due to having lived in the United Kingdom, she has shared her willingness to continue the work her mother started in the district. Ms. Alwoc holds a PhD in economics and is committed to fulfilling her mother’s vision for the district.

While the family is still in discussions with political parties, they are leaning towards running under the FDC party. However, the party has not yet announced its official position on the candidacy.

In addition to Ms. Ogwal, other candidates from different political parties are also vying for the same seat. This includes candidates from the Uganda Peoples Congress (UPC) and the National Resistance Movement (NRM), among others.

Ms. Alwoc has assured that she is prepared to serve the people of Dokolo and continue the work her mother started, despite not being native to the district. She is determined to make her late mother and the people of Dokolo proud through her service as their representative in Parliament.
