John Lematia, the Member of Parliament for Ayivu West Constituency, found himself in a physical altercation with James Ariko, a DSTV technician in Arua city, on Easter Sunday. The reason for the confrontation was their mutual connection to Faith Eyotaru, a 25-year-old relationship officer at Victoria University Kampala. The incident took place at Dream Land Hotel in Kuluva trading center along the Arua-Nebbi highway.
The conflict began when Lematia arrived at the hotel with Eyotaru for a swim and came face to face with Ariko, who was also present. Ariko confronted the legislator, claiming a romantic relationship with the woman as well. This led to a heated exchange between the two men, resulting in a physical altercation that was eventually broken up by hotel staff. West Nile Region police spokesperson, Josephine Angucia, confirmed that the incident occurred around 3:00 pm on Easter Sunday.
Following the scuffle, both Ariko and Lematia proceeded to the Arua City Central police division to report the incident. They were then directed to the Arua district police headquarters at Odumi in Vurra, where they filed cases of assault and threatening violence against each other. Angucia stated in a press release that the police arrived at the hotel to find that both men had already registered their complaints at the city division before being directed to the district headquarters.
Initial investigations by the police revealed that Eyotaru had been in a long-term relationship with Ariko, but they had reportedly separated the previous year. Subsequently, Eyotaru began a relationship with Lematia, who allegedly helped her secure the position of relationship officer at Victoria University in Kampala. During a meeting with the police, Eyotaru clarified that she is no longer involved with Ariko and is now in a relationship with Lematia. When contacted for a statement, Lematia declined, citing his attendance at a function in Adumi.
The altercation between Lematia and Ariko over their connection to Eyotaru highlights the complexities of relationships and the emotions involved. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of communication and mutual respect in resolving conflicts, rather than resorting to violence. As the police continue their investigation into the matter, it is essential for all parties involved to cooperate and adhere to the legal process to ensure a fair and just resolution.
