US Secretary of State Antony Blinken reiterated American commitment to global food security at the World Economic Forum in Davos. He highlighted a new initiative called Vision for Adapted Crops and Soils (VACS), launched in collaboration with the African Union and the Food and Agriculture Organization, as part of the USAID’s flagship Feed the Future initiative. The initiative aims to invest in identifying indigenous African crops that are both nutritious and resilient to climate change and to improve these varieties for worldwide distribution. Additionally, VACS focuses on investing in healthy soils to provide a strong agricultural foundation for the future.

Blinken emphasized the comprehensive response of the U.S. government to food insecurity around the world through the VACS initiative. His address took place at the World Economic Forum, where more than 60 heads of state and government, along with hundreds of business leaders, gathered to engage in discussions and collaborative efforts to address pressing global challenges.

The VACS initiative is now at the forefront of the fight against food insecurity, and Blinken’s affirmation of U.S. commitment at Davos highlights the importance of international cooperation and concerted efforts to ensure a resilient and sustainable future for global agriculture. The forum’s platform allows leaders from diverse sectors to come together and work towards common goals, emphasizing the significance of collaboration in addressing global challenges.
