Economy, Maritime Security and Culture are among the central areas of cooperation between Turkey and Cape Verde. This information was advanced today in Mindelo by the new Turkish ambassador to the archipelago, who highlighted the “good relations” between the two countries.
Hatice Nur Sagman, speaking to the press after presenting her credentials to the President of the Republic, José Maria Neves, believes that it is possible to do more in the relationship between the two countries.
“We already have good relations, but we know that we can do more. We had the opportunity to discuss this with the President and the Minister of Foreign Affairs. We already have an action plan. We will work on political issues, but also on economic and trade issues, because it is very important. When we talk about diplomacy, we also talk about the economy. We also believe that we could work on everything related to security, for example, maritime security, because Turkey is surrounded on three sides by sea, so we can also work on this issue,” she says.
On a cultural level, the diplomat mentions the idea of creating exchanges between artists from both countries. Additionally, the new Turkish ambassador is scheduled to meet with the Minister of Culture this afternoon.
When asked about the Russian invasion of Ukraine, where Ankara has positioned itself as a key mediator, Hatice Nur Sagman emphasizes the role of facilitator.
“We maintain the role of facilitator, because our president continues the dialogue with both presidents, of course. So, we wish that, truly, this conflict will cease as soon as possible,” she notes.
The President of the Republic, José Maria Neves, will be receiving the credentials of 11 new ambassadors to Cape Verde from countries in Africa, Europe, and Asia over the next two days.
