Economy, Maritime Security, and Culture are among the central areas of cooperation between Turkey and Cape Verde. This information was advanced today in Mindelo by the new ambassador of Turkey to the archipelago, who highlighted the “good relations” existing between the two countries.

Hatice Nur Sagman, who spoke to the press after presenting her credentials to the President of the Republic, José Maria Neves, believes that more can be done in the relationship between the two countries.

“We already have good relations, but we know we can do more. We had the opportunity to discuss this with the President and the Minister of Foreign Affairs. We already have an action plan. We will work on political issues, but also on economic and commercial issues, because that is very important. Diplomacy also involves the economy. We also believe that we could work on security matters, for example, maritime security, because Turkey is surrounded on three sides by the sea, so we can also work on that issue,” she states.

Regarding cultural aspects, the diplomat says that the idea is to create exchanges between artists from both countries. Furthermore, the new ambassador of Turkey will meet with the Minister of Culture this afternoon.

Asked about the Russian invasion of Ukraine, where Ankara has positioned itself as a key mediator, Hatice Nur Sagman emphasizes the role of facilitator.

“We maintain the role of facilitator, because our president continues dialogue with both presidents, of course. So, we wish for this conflict to cease as soon as possible,” she notes.

The President of the Republic, José Maria Neves, will receive from today and for two days the credentials of 11 new ambassadors in Cape Verde from countries in Africa, Europe, and Asia.
