The Secretary General of the General Federation of Secondary Education, Mohamed Safi, stated that a protest gathering will be organized in front of the Ministry of Education after Eid Al Fitr, in case the ministry does not meet their professional and financial demands in accordance with previous agreements signed between the two parties.
He emphasized, during a press conference held today Wednesday at the headquarters of the Maghreb Workers’ Union, that “this approach is not aimed at putting pressure on the Ministry of Education, but rather aims to encourage it to open the door to dialogue to resolve outstanding issues,” stressing that “the federation is open to all forms of dialogue to defend the rights of educators.”
He criticized “the deadlock observed in negotiations with the Ministry of Education, which, according to him, “did not respond to the 3 correspondences sent by the federation to start negotiations as a social partner in order to improve the situations of its members in the face of the deterioration of their purchasing power.”
The Secretary General of the General Federation of Secondary Education estimated that the Ministry of Education had “broken its commitment” due to the non-compliance with concluded agreements including the agreement of February 9, 2019, and the agreement of May 23, 2023, especially regarding the regularization of the status of substitute teachers and putting an end to all forms of precarious employment.
He also mentioned the “deterioration” of the infrastructure of educational institutions and the lack of equipment and human resources, criticizing the continuous use of precarious employment forms by the Ministry of Education and overcrowding in classrooms, which has led to the spread of school violence among students, according to his estimation.
Safi also highlighted the deterioration of school services, including cases of poisoning recorded in some school canteens, while also criticizing the high number of vacant positions in educational institutions for various academic subjects.
