The Assembly of the Representatives of the People decided by an absolute majority of deputies, during a plenary session held behind closed doors at the Bardo Palace, not to lift the immunity in the seven cases submitted by the internal regulations committee.

In a statement to the TAP agency on Wednesday, Youssef Tarchoun, rapporteur of the committee, indicated that they had received requests to lift the immunity of 7 deputies since June 2023, adding that the committee had prepared separate reports after examining the judicial documents received regarding the deputies in question.

He added that the committee presented its reports on these deputies in the plenary session.

The Assembly examined them on Tuesday and decided, by an absolute majority, not to lift the immunity on any of them, considering that the charges did not require such a decision.

This session is the second of its kind held behind closed doors by the current parliament since taking office in March 2023. In fact, during the plenary session on October 10, 2023, deputies had examined the request to lift the immunity of the deputy from the Italy constituency, Sami Abdelal.
