Journalist Mohamed Boughalleb was sentenced, on Wednesday, in the first instance, to six months in prison with immediate execution, announced Me Nafaâ Laâribi, a member of the Defense Collective.
Speaking to the Tap Agency by phone, Me Laaribi described this judgment as “unjust” and “contrary to the law,” stating that the defense will appeal.
Earlier in the evening, lawyer Nafaâ Laâribi stated that the case brought against journalist Mohamed Boughalleb by a civil servant from the Ministry of Religious Affairs was deliberated in order to deliver the judgment after the pleadings.
Laaribi indicated that the Defense Collective had requested a dismissal in this case, as “the procedures against Boughalleb are void and have no effect.”
Mohamed Boughalleb appeared in court on Wednesday in connection with the case filed against him by a civil servant at the Ministry of Religious Affairs.
Boughalleb did not appear before the Court of First Instance on April 3 as he had been transferred to the Rabta Hospital, according to a report submitted to the court by the prison authorities.
As a reminder, the Public Prosecutor at the Court of First Instance in Tunis issued a detention order against Mohamed Boughalleb on March 26, under Article 128 of the Penal Code and Article 86 of the Telecommunications Code.
