A restricted ministerial council, held today Wednesday, under the chairmanship of the Prime Minister, Ahmed Hachani, approved the creation of a public participation joint stock company called “Medical Company of the Aghlabid City of Kairouan”, which will undertake the realization of studies related to the medical city project of Kairouan and the infrastructure works of the project.
According to a statement from the Prime Ministry, the company will also be responsible for introducing the components of the medical city and managing its various spaces under the supervision of the Ministry of Equipment and Housing.
The Prime Minister emphasized, on this occasion, the economic, social, and scientific importance of this pilot project at the national and continental levels, highlighting its central role in the development of neighboring regions and the strengthening of competitiveness in various fields such as health services, related industries, and medical tourism.
During the council meeting, an overview was given on the components of this project, its location, the different specialties it will include, as well as its various objectives, such as the possibility of creating approximately 42,000 jobs and new markets for the export of innovative products in the healthcare sector.
The City will include numerous medical specialties in addition to university spaces. It will host an industrial space dedicated to the health sector, as well as a space for renewable energy production.
A medical evacuation unit will be designed in accordance with World Health Organization (WHO) standards.
The project will include a medical center, a psychiatry center, an emergency medical aid center, a multidisciplinary military clinic, and two hotel units. It will also feature housing, a tourist area, a commercial complex, multidisciplinary stadiums, and several leisure spaces.
The ministerial council was attended by the minister advisor to the President of the Republic, Mustapha Ferjani, the Minister of Finance, Sihem Boughdiri Nemsia, the Minister of Economy and Planning, Feryel-Ouarghi Sabai, the Minister of Health, Ali Mrabet, and the Minister of Equipment and Housing, in charge of leading the Ministry of Transport, Sarah Zaafarani Zanzri.
