The President of the Republic, Kaïs Saïed, decided on Wednesday to remove the governors of Mahdia and Monastir from their positions.

Upon receiving, Wednesday at the Carthage Palace, the Minister of the Interior Kamel Feki, the Director General of National Security, Mourad Saidane, and the Director General of the National Guard, Houcine Gharbi, the Head of State emphasized that it is unacceptable for a governor or delegate to remain in his office without making any visits to one of the delegations of his governorate.

And added: “It is also unacceptable for the governor not to be aware of water or electricity cuts in the region where he is the primary responsible for the proper functioning of public services.

Furthermore, Kaïs Saïed, on this occasion, reiterated the need to combat speculation, price hikes, and strengthen control over distribution networks, according to a statement from the Presidency of the Republic.

In this context, President Saïed invited citizens to boycott products whose prices have been increased by speculators, especially during the month of Ramadan.

The President of the Republic emphasized that municipal officials must “fulfill their duties to citizens as soon as possible.”

He also stressed the need for daily removal of household waste by municipal services, adding “it is unacceptable to leave garbage piles in the streets for four days.”

In another context, Kaïs Saïed highlighted the importance of the role of regional authorities who, according to him, “have not fulfilled their responsibilities as required by national duty.”
