South Sudan recently received a visit from a Sudanese official, Agar, who expressed his purpose as being an official visit to meet with the South Sudan president, his deputies, and cabinet ministers. The objective of the visit was to discuss issues of mutual benefit, cooperation, and to explore ways to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.
Agar highlighted the historical connections between individuals, politics, and geography that have existed between Sudan and South Sudan. He emphasized that his visit was not surprising as he has been familiar with the country and its people for some time. The purpose of the visit was to meet with friends, brothers, and colleagues to update each other on common issues, share historical experiences, and deliver a message from Gen Abdel Fattah Al Burhan, president of the transitional sovereign council of Sudan, to President Salva Kiir Mayardit.
The message from Gen Abdel Fattah Al Burhan focused on bilateral matters, expressing appreciation and compliments for the efforts of President Kiir and his administration to promote peace and stability in the region. Agar also congratulated President Kiir on his recent visits to Rwanda, Angola, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Burundi where he focused on propagating peace and reconciliation as the chairman of the East African Community, an economic grouping of eight member countries.
While Agar did not specify the duration of his stay in South Sudan for meetings with officials, South Sudan presidential adviser on national security, Tut Gatluak, confirmed that the visit was centered around discussing socio-economic, political, and security developments in the region for the benefit of both countries. Gatluak did not provide further details regarding the discussions that took place during the visit.
