The College of Teachers of the African School of Architecture and Urban Planning (EAMAU) sent a strike notice to the school’s management on April 15, 2024.
The grievances include the lack of health coverage since the end of 2023 and the deduction of 5% from teachers’ gross salaries since February 2024, without their prior consent according to them. They believe that these measures violate their employment contracts and the current statutes.
The College of Teachers is therefore demanding the refund of the deducted amounts from salaries and healthcare expenses incurred since January. They also request strict compliance with the statutory provisions concerning them.
If they do not obtain satisfaction by April 18, the teachers threaten to go on a total strike starting from April 24, with the suspension of all classes.
This announcement highlights the current tensions between the teaching staff and the management of EAMAU, with the former denouncing the lack of respect for their acquired rights.
The management has not yet publicly responded to these demands and the threat of disruption of educational activities at the institution.
