The President of the Republic, Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé, met with the National Assembly Bureau today to discuss a second reading of the constitutional revision law, which was recently voted on. This meeting comes in the midst of a busy electoral context, with legislative and regional elections originally scheduled for April 20, 2024.

Lomé, April 3, 2024
-For immediate release-
The President of the Republic, His Excellency Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé, granted an audience today to the National Assembly Bureau.
This republican meeting follows the President’s request for a second reading of the constitutional revision law passed on March 25, 2024, in order for the National Assembly to reconsider it.
The President, attentive to the interest shown by the population towards this important reform, and in a spirit of openness and constructive dialogue, encouraged the deputies to listen to all stakeholders, in order to consider all contributions aimed at enriching our Constitution.
In response, the National Assembly Bureau requested a few days to engage in wide consultations with all stakeholders in national life.
Therefore, the government will make a slight adjustment to the schedule of the legislative and regional elections originally planned for April 20, 2024.
