It is a real tour de force that the RPT/UNIR regime is preparing. The ongoing manipulation goes beyond the seven-year term that is common in national opinion.
The Togolese Constitution is currently under the scalpel in the National Assembly. It is undergoing radical cosmetic surgery, tailored to the regime’s request. The butchery goes far beyond simply extending the five-year term. “Want to know what has been changed in the constitution currently under review in parliament? Everything has changed. I mean everything,” said opposition leader Jean-Pierre Fabre this Friday in front of the press.
The president of the ANC, who denounces a constitutional coup, warns that it is indeed a transition to a new Republic. “The regime wants to move from a presidential regime to a parliamentary regime where executive power will be held by a prime minister,” he emphasized.
And he added: “If the proposal passes, there will be no presidential election in 2025 since, in the new texts, it is the parliament that will elect the President. This is what this regime is preparing to keep Faure Gnassingbé in power.”
The regime’s Dr. Nassifs of the fifty-year-old regime intend to take advantage of the current monochrome composition of the parliament to create a new constitution in line with the aspirations of the Prince of Lomé II.
And that’s very sad!
