A tragic road accident cost the life of a young student and left two others seriously injured. The events took place on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, on National Highway No. 5, in front of the T-Oil gas station, near the Madiba intersection.
According to testimonies collected from our colleagues at Togo24, the three students were coming back from the BAC 1 sports exam on a motorcycle. Unfortunately, their journey was abruptly interrupted when they were hit by a truck, resulting in the loss of one of them. Despite the driver wearing a helmet, the impact was fatal, leaving behind a heartbreaking scene.
The other two occupants of the motorcycle, seriously injured, were urgently transported to the hospital to receive appropriate medical care. This tragic event has sparked a wave of emotion and consternation within the educational community and the local population.
It is alarming to note that this accident occurs in a context where accidents are multiplying on National Highway No. 5, despite efforts to rehabilitate and expand this road. This raises serious questions about road safety and calls for urgent action from the relevant authorities.
In this period of mourning, it is imperative to remind all road users of the importance of caution and respect for traffic rules. Everyone’s life is precious, and it is our collective duty to do everything possible to avoid such tragic losses.
