The Cape Verdean artist Tiago Silva will present an intimate concert “Kriolo Sounds – Each Note, a Story” this Friday, the 12th, at the Cultural Center of Cape Verde (CCCV) in Portugal. In this concert, Tiago Silva will be on stage at the CCCV accompanied by musicians Ivan Gomes (guitarist) and EmÃlio Lobo (drummer).
According to a note from the Embassy of Cape Verde in Portugal, “Kriolo Sounds – Each Note, A Story” is a musical project of the Cultural Center of Cape Verde (CCCV) that aims to support artists from Cape Verde and other CPLP countries and introduce the music of these countries to the public. “Monthly, an artist gives an intimate presentation to a small audience. Participation in “Kriolo Sounds” is by invitation from the CCCV directly to the artist or through the artist expressing interest to the CCCV,” they explain.
Tiago Miguel Pereira Matos Soares Silva was born in Mindelo. The son of a musician father, a member of the former groups “Wings” and later “Gota Gota”, Tiago developed his love for music gradually, singing and playing guitar. The Salesian School was also important in his musical development.
Tiago formed his first group, the “Niltons”, which later became known as “Life”, a band that made its mark in Mindelo. The group was in high demand for shows at festivals and concerts, and some of their songs became hits among the young people of Cape Verde.
In 2009, Tiago moved to Paris through the Alliance Française to study musicology at the University Paris VIII and at ATLA, a school of contemporary music, studying Polystyle Guitar, music theory, and singing, with an emphasis on various styles like blues, bossa nova, and computer-assisted music production. During his time in the French capital, Tiago devoted himself fully to music. He formed a group called “Nos 3” with his brother Érico Pinto (percussion) and Vamar Martins (guitar), son of Vasco Martins.
Tiago Silva is the author of the songs “Liberta bo mente” from 2014 and “Vida” from 2015, performing concerts in the French capital at venues like “New Morning”, and in other countries and cities throughout Europe such as Luxembourg and Lisbon. Tiago Silva draws inspiration from his Cape Verdean roots but also from Brazilian music.
Upon returning to Cape Verde in 2016, he released a new single titled “Vive bo vida” which marked a new phase in his career. In 2020, he released another single, “Bô”, and in July he premiered the music video for the song “Vida”. He was one of the headliners at the country’s largest music festival, the BaÃa das Gatas Festival in São Vicente, in the 2020 and 2021 editions held online, and participated in the Summer Jazz Festival as a guitarist. In 2021, he released his first EP “Nô Amá” on all digital platforms.
2022 was a year of affirmation for Tiago Silva’s career, with the release of the EP “Kês D’meu”. The work contains six songs including the singles “Kê bo Krê” featuring Mark Delman, and “Kel kê D’meu” featuring Kiddye Bonz, for which the respective music videos are already available. With Tiago Silva’s participation in two major national stages with completely different concepts, the Mindel Summer Jazz and the BaÃa das Gatas International Music Festival, the artist showcased his versatility.
In 2023, upon his arrival in Portugal, Tiago Silva decided to expand his career, performing concerts in various venues in the capital, notably the B.leza.
