Moroni, February 28, 2024 – President Azali Assoumani received the Minister of State of the United Arab Emirates for Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Shakhboot Nahyan Al Nahyan, to discuss the progress of Emirati investment projects in the Comoros.
Expansion of the airport, renovation of the Golden Tulip Hotel, and investments in maritime transport were at the center of the discussions.
President Assoumani inquired about the progress of the various projects that the United Arab Emirates plan to carry out in the Comoros. The discussions also focused on bilateral cooperation and investment programs.
A memorandum of cooperation was signed between the two countries, placing the actions under the supervision and coordination of the Emirati Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In addition to defense cooperation, the Comoros and the United Arab Emirates are linked by various investment agreements in maritime transport, airport infrastructure, tourism, and hospitality.
The project to expand and modernize the Moroni Prince Said Ibrahim International Airport (Aimpsi) is at the top of the list. The concession was granted to an Emirati company in November 2023.
The renovation of the Golden Tulip Hotel and the establishment of a maritime transport company are also planned.
These projects aim to increase the flow of travelers, improve services, and contribute to the economic development of the Comoros.
